Card 1 โ The Goal
๐ฏ The Goal: Most of your busywork does not move the needle. The Pareto Principle: roughly 80% of your results come from about 20% of your efforts โ 20% of clients produce 80% of revenue, 20% of your wardrobe gets 80% of wear, a handful of habits drive most of your health. The skill is identifying YOUR high-leverage 20% and ruthlessly doubling down on it, while delegating, shrinking, or deleting the noisy rest.
Card 2 โ Step 1
๐ Step 1: Run the audit โ find your 20%. Pick one domain and list the inputs vs. what they actually produce. Work: which 2 of your 10 weekly activities generate the praise, revenue, or promotions? (Hint: it's rarely the meetings or the inbox grooming.) Money: which 20% of spending delivers 80% of your actual happiness โ and which subscriptions/impulse buys deliver none? Relationships: which handful of people give you 80% of your energy โ and who drains it? Study: which 20% of the material shows up in 80% of the exam? The pattern hides in plain sight, but ONLY if you write the list โ in your head, everything feels equally important. On paper, the imbalance is embarrassing.
Card 3 โ Step 2
โ๏ธ Step 2: Ruthlessly handle the other 80%. Four escalating options for every low-leverage item: 1. DELETE โ half your recurring busywork survives on inertia alone; the world won't notice (the status meeting you skip, the report nobody reads). 2. SHRINK โ what can't die can get smaller: the 60-minute call becomes 25; the daily check becomes weekly. 3. BATCH โ remaining small stuff gets compressed into one block instead of leaking across the week (see the context-switching lesson). 4. DELEGATE/AUTOMATE โ anything someone or something else can do at 80% of your quality should be handed off; your freed hours go to the 20% at 100%. The guilt you feel deleting things is the sunk-cost of 'busy = valuable.' Results are valuable. Busy is just tired.
Card 4 โ Step 3
๐ Step 3: Double down where it counts โ and re-run the audit. Take the hours you clawed back and reinvest them in the identified 20%: more reps on the skill that gets you promoted, more time with the five people who matter, more of the one marketing channel that actually converts. Then the power move almost nobody does: apply 80/20 to the 20% itself โ inside your best activities there's an even sharper 4% producing 64% of everything (the one client type, the one exercise, the one hour of the day). Re-audit quarterly: your 20% drifts as life changes, and last year's leverage is this year's busywork. The rule isn't a one-time cleanup; it's a permanent lens.
Card 5 โ The Cheat Sheet
๐ The 80/20 Cheat Sheet: 1. Write the list โ inputs vs. actual results, one domain at a time. 2. Circle the vital 20%; be honest about the decorative 80%. 3. Delete โ Shrink โ Batch โ Delegate, in that order of courage. 4. Reinvest every freed hour into the circled few. 5. Zoom again: find the 4% inside the 20%. 6. Re-audit quarterly โ leverage drifts. Effort is not a virtue. Aimed effort is.
